7·4 days agoSilly children! They should know better than that. You don’t eat wet paint, you let it dry and then pick off flakes, like crisps/chips.

6·4 days agoThat sounds like a tough journey, but Moop looks very content indeed to be sharing it with you.
I’m sure that’s a reference to something, but I’m at a Loss to figure out what.
Funny, but actually worse. Could you please take that down, or if you really insist on misattributing it, use your own username?
Because it is wildly disrespectful to the original artist, coming close to you tacitly trying to claim credit for creating it, and makes it harder for people to find the original source, especially if someone quotes, crossposts, forwards or otherwise repeats your post.
It’s thoroughly obnoxious behaviour, you’ve been told that repeatedly, by many people. Just stop doing it.
You have, once again, removed the artist’s name from the image. Note that in the OP’s version ‘LINSEDITION.COM’ is displayed in the bottom right, but you’ve cropped it off. Stop doing that.
Stop removing the artist’s tagline.

No Lawns@slrpnk.net•Pennsylvania, USA is trying to stop HOAs from banning native plant gardens.English
1051·5 days agoHOAs are such a fascinatingly American thing. They seem to cause no end of annoyance for those living in them, and have few to no positive effects (at least, we don’t hear about any positives), yet they persist.
Can those who are adversely affected not do anything about their local ones, or is it actually a case that they’re not too bad for most people most of the time?
Spread a towel or sheet over it and you have a warmed cat bed, no hair on the load, and a handy way to get them off if they don’t move when it’s folding time.
Yeah, I know, I’ve seen their posts before. I hoped that asking would both bring it to the attention of people who hadn’t noticed, and give him a chance to explain himself should he wish to try.
Turn your screen upside down.
Why did you choose to remove the original author’s name from this?
The TCP connection time out on linux defaults to a bit over two minutes, although individual client programs can use different values, and I’m assuming Windows is similar. Honestly, I was thinking about the time to boot a server, but if you’re just suspending you’d almost certainly be ok, albiet with a slight power draw even when the machine is not in use. Hibernating might also be ok as long as your hardware gets through its POST quickly.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Should there be a rule against removing credits?English
20·9 days agoThis has got to be peak irony.
WoL works, but your server will take some time to come back online, but the router probably wont be able to buffer the traffic for that long, and a tcp connection would likely timeout before then anyway. You usually want to send the WoL magic packet, wait for the server to come back online, and only then start sending traffic.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Bizarre attacks by neighbor with unknown method/deviceEnglish
17·9 days agoPretty much every response you get is going to be telling you to go and see a doctor, because that is the next logical thing to do. You don’t need to tell them you think your neighbour is causing it, just that you’re feelling this imbalance, and describe the symptoms.
There’s a variety of things that could be causing these sensations, and you’ll need to rule out the obvious ones first.
Vertigo could give you these sorts of sensations, and can be triggered or worsened by stress, which you’re clearly feeling, as well as a variety of other medical issues, which your doctor should investigate. Things like an inner ear infection can be treated, but it could also be a symptom of something more serious, such as a mimor stroke or other damage.
Another aspect to check is your physical environment. Make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm properly installed near any appliance that burns fuel, and also get your hone checked for gas leaks. Both can cause unpleasant effects, and both are very dangerous too. Get your electrics checked too, as something wrong there could also be causing an effect, like buzzing at a high frequency, the manifests itself in weird bodily sensations. Whilst you’re at it, check your neighbourhood for any new industrial or manufacturing that might be releasing noxious fumes. Walk around and smell for any gas leaks outdoors too, just in case.
If you’ve ruled out physical health concerns and environmental issues, the most probable cause is psycological. To be clear, this doesn’t make the symptoms any less real, or suggest you’re just imagining them. Stress, and it clear that you are very stressed by the situation with your neighbours, can manifest in a variety of unpleasant ways, including the sorts of symptoms you’ve described, and worse. Talking to a mental health professional would be a good step to helping you deal with all of this, even if it’s not a reaction to the stress of the unplesant situation you find yourself in with your neighbours.
Whatever the cause, I hope you manage to resolve it.
Have you tried licking random millipedes to see what happens?
I’m curious about the assertion that this is ‘to protect themselves from malaria carrying mosquitoes’. How do the scientists know this is the motivation, rather than a helpful side-effect?

I am confused by this, straws go in the mouth, if people are sticking them in their brains, they’re doing it wrong, or are you saying there is a crack team of assasins out there who’ve vowed to keep this knowledge secret in a particularly gruesome manner?
