plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Europe@feddit.org•[AskEurope] what's your country's problem?English101·22 days agoI think that the biggest problem is the lack of long term thinking and planning. The polarization in politics doesn’t help - every party is trying to say that it is different from the other one so even in the stuff like defense policy is so fractured across the spectrum.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Board Games@sopuli.xyz•Board Games Ranked By How Much The Box Lies About The PlaytimeEnglish9·22 days agoSo the wargaming style games takes the longest time.
It is honestly such a hard task to make complex, easy to follow mechanics and still somehow explain it to players in short amount of time. Another takeaway from this is that when player led decisions/interactions aren’t easy to account for in the time estimates.
I think that another thing that is common in some games is some stalemate situations where some equilibrium with no winners is achieved and it just drags on.
Had to look at wiki about the modernization of 810.
And I wasn’t entirely correct the true modernization was performed 2005-2012 basically rebuild to be the yellow RegiNova train.
Last “modernization” 2020-2024 was pretty much stopgap before they can get some new trains. Fitted new motor so AC can be fitted and new interior.
I don’t know the name of the trains that are meant to replace those 70’s trains. But there are options, truth is that it is just aging and is increasingly hard to maintain them in decent condition (most recent modernization was ~2015). At least here it will be replaced eventually for more modern ones, I know it is blast from past but it just doesn’t matter for regular commuter.
Yes too small, too slow and on electrified tracks irrelevant. They are meant for small regional lines, not for suburban transport. It is like running trams as EC trains.
I like them but fortunately didn’t see them in a while. I say fortunately because they get slowly replaced not like the insane plan in Hungary to “modernize” them.
Also they aren’t suited for the place where I live so few lines are still served with the old DB carriages other have the new RegioPanther trains.

It needs to be national, most of these pesticides are restricted use only. You have to have license to buy it and use it. I don’t know how it works specifically in France but most probably there is some bodie that regulates it use in whole France. It is one market so if it is permitted somewhere it will get everywhere.
Kofola!
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Europe@feddit.org•The ‘Czech Trump’ and the Mysterious Poisoning of the Becva RiverEnglish21·3 months agoTo be honest the comparison with Trump is bit harsh.
Because of how fucked up are American politics all the populists and right wing parties are compared to him.
In fact he has closer ties to democrats in USA than to republicans. But that doesn’t mean that he isn’t populist, political chameleon and sometimes in his retorics gets bit to the extreme to catch most possible votes.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you believe that most people act according to their own self-interest? Is acting only according to your self-interest a good strategy in life?5·4 months agoIf you look at it from the political side that this is the basic idea of liberal democracy.
Everyone votes in their best interest and especially in proportional representation you get some compromise of the interests.
Right now at least in politics people act less in their own interest but more of what they emotionally feel like their interest.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Europe@feddit.org•It turns out you’re never too old to go Interrailing around EuropeEnglish15·5 months agoAfter my bikepacking trip I will pitch the interrail to my parents. They are so excited about the places I visited but don’t know how or if they will be able to get there. They (me too) don’t like flying and by car it is just too stressful.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.English2·5 months agoBit more chill than in France, different style of signage (node network) and today ride in Brussels was lot easier than in Paris.
What is worse is that there is forbidden wild camping and they don’t have many campsites, first day I stayed on someone’s garden and then I had bit of long and short days of riding to get somewhere to camp.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.English1·5 months agoI am bikepacking through Europe, I was in Spain, Portugal and now I am heading towards Belgium.
I didn’t used any bike share and no trains here either but it is used here all the time.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.English7·6 months agoTo be honest the cycling here is a bit of organised mess. You have to get the vibe of it as it was explained to me. Real problem starts when you want to get outside of Paris because it is so f*ing big, it is half day of riding through suburbs before you get out.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Europe@feddit.org•Should English stay the lingua franca of Europe?English17·7 months agoNo, most people are pragmatic in this case and eastern countries changed from Russian ~30 years ago so another change isn’t coming any time soon.
As my parents saw the change from “it is really appreciated that you can speak English” to “it is expected that you can use it”. I can tell that it is so engrained in our multinational exchange that it won’t be even desirable.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do Americans not understand what has happened?92·7 months agoYou know in regards to foreign policy of US it is happening for long time, at least since 90’s. What Trump does right now just makes this stuff really obvious for ordinary people.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bFs6ZiynSU
From my point of view as a foreigner the US political system is broken and nobody tried to correct it so this was only matter of time. And yes when something like this happens most people just want to get by.

Fediverse needs to scale horizontally so it is bad idea to join the largest server.
plactagonic@sopuli.xyzto World News@lemmy.world•Europol chief calls on tech giants to unlock encrypted messagesEnglish15·8 months agoI love how the discussion goes in my country - police lobby for unlocking encryption “just for them” and NÚKIB (national bureau for cybersecurity) openly advising how to correctly encrypt everything.
I think there are IoT sims that can only receive SMS.
My friend wanted to make something with them (I think smart thermostat) when the internet wasn’t everywhere.
