I’m right there with you, lol. I have a LOT of hobbies. I’ve definitely got enough Lemmy content for the technical ones, lol. Though, I love writing and worldbuilding stuff, too, and communities for those exist, but they sadly aren’t very active. I of course like nature and wildlife if you couldn’t tell from the direction r1b.it is going. If you like cute creatures, check out !herps@r1b.it ;) – they may not be fluffy, but they sure as hell are cute!

I haven’t heard anything new beyond what’s been said on Matrix. They still don’t have a timeline, so they’re just stuck waiting to get access back. Hopefully that won’t be much longer!

I’m only a few days in, but so far so good! I’m a huge tech and C programming nerd, but I’ve never done any sort of networking. I’m not physically self-hosting anything yet (though, I’d love to start once I get more settled into my new house), so I’ve enjoyed doing my research and trying to find companies I approve of. I’ve tried to keep it all EU-based for now because they’ve got the best privacy laws from what I’ve seen. I’m currently leasing some VPS space from Elestio, and they’ve been amazing, especially for the price. Highly recommend!

Edit: I’m struggling to see the point of Docker, though, especially since Lemmy is the only thing I’m hosting at the moment.

I’ve always been conflicted on LTS. As a Linux hobbyist, I’ve used bleeding-edge software for years and had very few breaks and issues, but as someone who also maintains their own instance, the added level of reassurance is nice. Do I think my stuff will break? No, thats why I use Arch/Artix on my laptop. Am I still anxious about it? Yes, that’s why I use Debian for my servers

Genuine question from a hobbyist to professionals: what’s wrong with existing Linux alternatives? I’ve done graphic design for years with things like Pixlr, Gimp, Blender, and Krita. Sure, the workflow takes some getting used to, but I’ve been able to achieve everything I’ve wanted by getting a little creative with the toolset
