Thats literally the opposite of the point of the comic.

You are ignoring so much just to make a myopic point.
Youre presupposing that were losing something by cleaning up the environment. As if we cant invest in a cleaner environment the same way we spent money of the other things that made the pollution. Its absolutely possible to have all these things.
The point is that we are ALREADY paying more for living in a polluted world than a clean one. Pollution causes so many widespread health problems that we’d make that money back on healthcare costs alone.
Thats what makes this environment discussion so nonsensical. We dont even have to address climate change to get a return on our investment in cleaning up the world.
Highly suggest Barbara Tuchman’s A Distant Mirror for all of you who like this stuff. All her work is great.

5·2 months agoGo camping and just throw all the dirty stuff in the back to clean at home. Take all the yard clippings to the mulcher without having to bag them or keep a pile on the curb. I have a hard tonneau cover so sometimes I like keeping my tools under there if I have to park in the city without worrying about people seeing the valuables through a window.
People like to say truck owners never use their trucks but I use mine constantly. I’m camping at least 12-15 weekends per year, hauling yard equipment, kayaking, helping people move, and all in a midsized truck.

10·3 months agoGenuinely one of the questions that is coming up more and more in healthcare is trying to figure out what cancer is okay to just live with. As in, the treatment would be more of an impact on quality of life vs letting the cancer develop slower than the person would die of other causes.
This is especially becoming more of an issue as we get much better at detecting cancer.

To me, it was a stark period in the decline of reddit quality. What little remained of the community at large died then. Reddit has been a ghost of its former self since.
