It’s hard to imagine that Notepad of all things has now been enshittified. On Windows, I only ever use Notepad++, but regular ol’ Notepad has been a staple of Windows almost since the beginning. It truly feels like they’ve finished peeling away what little good remained of what Windows used to be.

5·5 months agoIt’s not about sustainability, it never was. It was only ever about endlessly repeating the cycle of improving profit margins in the short term by any and all means. And what could sound better to venture capitalists than “improved productivity” regardless of whether or not it was true?
Kinda same for me. I run EndeavourOS on my personal machine and Mint for work. Been pretty happy with that arrangement, though the Arch ecosystem took some adjusting to.
I got a Framework 16 a few months ago and I’ve been loving it. Super happy these guys managed to make this concept of a repairable laptop work. Though, one thing I wish is for them to make a storage case for the expansion cards. I’ve built up a little collection of them and obviously filled up all 6 slots pretty quickly. I’d like a better place to put the unused cards than in a random drawer.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•To the LGBT and particularly trans people, how are you holding up these days?English
15·8 months agoI spend every day wondering if it’ll be my last. The paranoia is always there in the back of my mind, knowing the new Gestapo will eventually come for me, I just don’t know when. In the mean time, I’m preparing myself for that possibility both mentally and physically. My mental health hasn’t been this bad in a long time, but there’s not much I can really do other than try to keep my head above water and hope I make it through this.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump dismantles Voice of America with executive order - BBC NewsEnglish
123·9 months agoIt’s a pretty scary idea when the odds are very high that we would just get murdered by police or secret service. And in this hypothetical, if we were to fail, Trump would just bring them hammer down even harder on everyone else, making future attempts much more difficult if not impossible. Until the people are organized on a large scale and collectively convinced this is the only option we have left, we have too much to lose with very little chance of success.

8·10 months agoAmerican here. You’re definitely not a moron. Too many of our own people are for not taking the orange idiot seriously. He may be tremendously stupid, but he has more than enough malice and greed to make up for it. And the people staffing his regime are honestly worse.

7·1 year agoI haven’t been a huge fan of Intel for their cpus for some time now, but I agree, there needs to be more gpu competition out there. I’ve been wanting to try out an Arc for a while, I’m just hoping the dgpu drivers are better than what they run for their integrated chips.
