The users are who need to move. A bunch of those mods actively ban users who call out tankie bullshit there. The whole damn instance needs to be defederated.
Not just that. People should switch from lemmy to one of the alternatives (mbin, piefed) entirely. Dessalines is still main lemmy dev after all and that’s not going to change…
I have zero issues with one of the main devs being a tankie, provided the code is good. It turns out political opinions tend to not impact code quality.
However, I’m unlikely to donate more than code provided he gets most of it, because I don’t want to financially support someone who actively supports misinformation.
My beef with Dessalines is 10% his politics, and 90% that he’s a power hungry asshole who uses development donations and pays himself to mod and occasionally make a commit. My beef Nutomic is that he’s a transphobe and a liar.
Putting up with these clowns was one thing when there were no good alternatives, but now piefed is better than Lemmy in a bunch of ways.
Maybe I’ll check it out. I dislike a number of things about Lemmy, but it’s been acceptably decent so I haven’t looked around much. I’ve been working on my own Reddit clone, so I’ve always had a short term mentality about it.
But yeah, if the two main devs didn’t have mod positions, I’d be happier.
I was about to point that out, but it looks like the mod that banned me for pointing out negative things about Russia is no longer a mod.
I’ve unsubbed from most communities there and things are much better now
Subscriber count is essentially a worthless metric on Lemmy, it’s overinflated because of dead accounts. The older an instance and it’s comms, the worse it is. .ml being the original most of it comms are old and way overinflated by dead accounts.
For example !linux@lemmy.ml has something like 55k subscribers, but the entire Threadiverse only has ~50k monthly active accounts.
MAUs is a much better metric to go by, and by that standard there are only 2 main comms that haven’t been dethroned by a non-.ml alternative yet !linux@lemmy.ml and !privacy@lemmy.ml
But !linux@programming.dev is getting there!
oh are we the threadiverse?
Yea, the Threadiverse refers to all of the federated “Reddit-like” link aggregation social media, so it includes Lemmy, Mbin, PieFed and Sublinks (if it ever comes out)
Fully agree. I sorted lemmy.ml communities by MAU and listed a few from the top
Oh man, check it out with all the instances on if you want a little smile, .ml comms have fallen hard lol. Memes used to hover around rank 13, now it’s like 30 lmao
