Those low points are interesting. I wonder what causes them.

For the one around Xmas, I assume it’s to do with hospitals not being open so anything scheduled, like induced labor or c-section, would be delayed around it… same with new years. And I guess 4th of July? But if that’s the cause, why not the other federal holidays?

(I’m assuming this is US data just by the negative spike in July and the habit of births being scheduled and induced)

Yeah, hospitals will schedule around holidays. You can see Xmas, new years, 4th of July, Halloween, and Thanksgiving (unlabeled). I assume those are the only holidays that would realistically keep a doctor away from the hospital.

This is correct to my knowledge. I think those are the most pronounced ones because they are the most likely holiday days to be actually fully taken off nationally.

This comment is probably gonna be annoying but its just an exercise in experimental design for me.

When measuring births, there’s also a lot of other factors to rule out. I take this graph as saying “Humans tend to have sex in a specific season” and that’s what I’m going to respond to.

Some other factors may be that theres more failed pregnancies during specific times of the year, and the sex rate per season is relatively constant. Maybe humans tend to have sex in ways that conceive during specific times of the year. There’s really not conclusive evidence of a mating season given this graph, although it is a helpful visual when it comes to looking at birth rates.

Funny that so many people try to get their child at Christmas and seemingly no one (ok, not many) manages to
