The internet definition, yes. Because you’ll get a bunch of people who are diagnosed who think that since they have ADHD, everything they do is a symptom so they’ll spread some things that’s just basic human nature.
In the real world, it’s defined just right. The problem there is that people will ignore the “interfering with daily activities/life” part. Sure, everyone is distracted or hyperfocused sometimes, but for us it’s more of a constant issue that we have to find ways to get around to function in society. Or people will look at something like executive dysfunction and think “yeah, sometimes I don’t want to <insert name of task no one wants to do>” because they can’t comprehend the hell of having to force yourself to do the things you love.
I liken it to someone saying “I’m so OCD” just because they put their pens in a desk drawer. No man, OCD wrecks people. You’ve just finally decided to be slightly neat.
Does every fucking post have to be about this? Is there literally any meme that can be posted here that won’t result in people barging in to go ‘ACTUALLY, PEOPLE WITHOUT ADHD DO THIS, TOO!!’ as if the premise was ever that ADHD people have behaviors unseen anywhere else in the human population?
It’s defined by the ICD and DSM. If it were too broad, it would be unknowable to us at this point without some major new discovery that changes the definition. Having said that, there aren’t really enough psych resources to go around so a lot of people are walking around undiagnosed but with very obvious symptoms. I don’t think this is bandwagoning. I think it’s people behaving rationally in response to the limitations of a relatively new and growing branch of medicine. Regardless, I’m happy to see people starting to acknowledge and accept a broader diversity of psychological states. I feel like it at least helps people get treatment, if they want it, by reducing the stigma around mental health diagnoses.

That hits hard. Before getting treated, it was hell to even get out of bed to do more nothing elsewhere or play video games.
