My Reddit account was recently shadow banned for no apparent reason but luckily I was able to get it unbanned. I now mentioned to one of my Reddit friends that I’m on Lemmy and the comment was removed by Reddit.
I noticed after 2016, things just got really really bad for Reddit. I got banned in like 2021 and wasn’t told why, so I filed an appeal and was told my account was brought back. I wasn’t given a reason for the band, however. I got banned from a ton of different subreddits, many of which I never even visited and, once again, no reason. It was like 2024 I dumped Reddit for good.
I believe this is the cost of AI moderating websites. I have had friends who had similar experiences with other websites like Discord, Instagram, and Twitter. They got banned, weren’t told why, filed an appeal, and got back in. Remember Kafka’s trial? AI made this real for the website. Your crime is you triggered some kind of automated response and you’re not getting an explination.
Now stop whining and give us your ID so Peter Thiel can find the antichrist or something!

Ive had that happen on my local city subreddit. Autobot. Auto-removed my post.
Ive heard its not a reddit wide thing. Tried and they are right. Seems like its only subreddits at least about half a year ago when i tried. Now up/downvotes no idea. They used to allow you to see exact numbers but removed that a loooong time ago when bots got caught up/downvoting stuff.
You can still see the upvote % and number of upvotes in insights and do the math, but Reddit is garbage. I used to use it a lot and they’ve managed to enshittify it hard enough that even I don’t use it anymore.
i was on reddit for 15 years (all day, every day). it’s dead to me now, as of a few years ago.
It’s so disappointing because it was like the only good place for true discussions originally.
Then they started censoring topics they disagreed with and subreddits they didn’t like to make it more marketable, then sold to condé nast (Vogues parent company and many others).
After that it got even worse with the censorship. Advertising got more and more intrusive, they killed third party apps so you were only looking at their ads, made the mobile experience horrible to push users to the app so you can’t use an ad blocker, and finally, got rid of r/all so you’re forced to the algorithm or specific subreddits which are heavily moderated.
It literally just became another platform to shove ads in our face with the intrinsic value of the platform eroded to the point where you can’t even trust the discussions aren’t just marketing interns or bots talking to each other.
Reddit does vote count “fuzzing” to any post/comment that reaches a certain score, so the numbers they show you are intentionally never accurate.
Yeah and there has been at least one documented instance where votes were manipulated.
They used to allow you to see exact numbers
As far back as 2009, those numbers were fudged and not exact.
