The only things I have seen from his speeches or debates that I absolutely do not care for and cringe at is his “beta/alpha” usage. I don’t really want a serious person using those words, but I guess it reaches the younger men/boys so whatever I guess…

If the can kill a prisedent, kidnap head of state, publicly support a pedo, and ignore a continuous genocide of Palestinians, I wouldn’t be surprised if they kill him as soon as he pose a threat. And if it happens most likely they will blame a Palestinian Muslim.

Actually, I gotta disagree. America is cool as shit. We don’t lack in coolness lol we lack in decency and empathy. Hell American black culture basically defines “coo” in the modern era, and before that Hollywood and Rock n Roll did the same. I would personally amend it to “I would LOVE for this country to be even 5% as great as it thinks it is.” Because my fellow Americans are convinced we’re the greatest society in human history, so 5% of that would be an immense improvement lol.

Also, even though they’ve been co-opted by MAGAts and the right, guns are cool as shit, and we fuckin love guns here.

Eh… You’re right, cool is highly subjective and debatable. There is a lot of great shit here, but we NEED to get rid of all the capitalists that take anything remotely ‘great’ and turn it into a pay to win scheme from hell.

I don’t think Piker was that instrumental in how good the Democrat campaigns were this time…

By the time the general came around, the flywheel was already going. But if this is the extend of your understanding or thinking, youʻve missed almost entirely the whole story and point.

The point is that Hasan backed and supported candidates months ago who were willing to break with establishment Democrat ties in a manner which actually got people excited and involved. Without Hasan, there is no Abdul El Sayed. They simply donʻt make it through the primary. And without a candidate on the table as exciting and directly confrontational to establishment democrats, there is no Blue-nami. You donʻt get a Blue-nami when its Stevens or Janet Mills across the board: those kinds of candidates decrease turnout.

I was talking with awareness of the context of the primaries. Stevens was the DNC favourite but she was still evidently an Israel bootlicker and didn’t perform well at the debate. El-Sayed got pre-primary endorsements from UAW and has had strong individual and collective support from labour union members. Not to say Piker didn’t help signal boost the campaign a lot, just to say Senator-elect El-Sayed would have never gotten through the primary without him is not necessarily true, there were many axes of support that converged and primary voters also compared the quality of candidates directly. And El Sayed used the fact that gobs of cash were being lobbed into the race to defeat him to his benefit.

I’m just tempering the argument that Piker is the primary or sole reason why we got the result we did, it’s a whole bunch of factors, a bunch of rural faces got eaten between the ICE raids, more new wars and gas prices, Republicans primaried particularly shitty candidates because they were measured by their fealty to Trump. It’s a bit of No Kings rallies driving people to vote as tangible action against this admin, and finally it’s the Mamdani effect where sewer socialism, left-wing populism that purports to go beyond ideology to focus on making a tangible difference for everyone while enshrining rights for the underprivileged.

Its not even close. This is for a podcast Iʻll be doing later this week:

If we assume a random prior, Chuck Schumer and Democratic establishment support was a net negative in the primary, where-as association with Hasan Piker was a net positive. And not by a little. Association with Hasan in the primary resulted in a 50% better result in regards to winning their primaries than association with Chuck Schumer. Hasan picks also outperformed Schumer picks in the general by a significant margin. Their ability to convert from primary picks, to won races makes Hasan Piker definitionally a king maker. Their primary picks won their elections.

You can have different opinions on the particulars of why it may be this way, but you do not have space to have your own facts on the matter. And the fact of the matter is that Hasans involvement, especially early, in these primaries won candidates their elections.

It might be a good idea to step away for a minute- I cannot stress enough that starting inane fights about the electoral importance of hassan piker with people who are also happy to see Sayed win is bad praxis. This does not serve any productive end, it just increases infighting and anger among the people you’re in community with.

No it is. Its exactly those people who said that we needed to vote for a genocide instead of demanding that candidate do better who today’s victory is a vindication against. That we need to moderate our positions. That we need to police our tone when it comes to equality for all.

This is a vindication against moderation

No one you’re talking to is advocating for genocide or wants moderate democrats, we’re celebrating Sayed’s win. Thats what everyone in this thread is doing.

Literally the entire thread is people being happy Sayed won

I do agree Hasan deserves to be on the long list of people centrist Democrats apologize to, along with Sayed himself and mamdani (what a crazy coincidence, they’re all brown, wonder what that has to do with anything). But starting fights over whether Hasan gave him the election with other people who are happy Sayed won and calling them liberals for not being Hasan fans, even though we’re all here celebrating, is a bleak way to engage with the people around you and makes you look like a psyop trying to sow discord.

El Sayed doesnʻt get through the primary without the support of Hasan and the Hasan-adjacent community. This isnʻt a debate. Its in the permanent record. Hasan builds up good candidates early on when the level of volunteering and donations from a community of that size can make a difference. Those candidates that Hasan supported, by and large, won across the board last night, and have been winning across the board since 2025.

Without Hasan, Michigan gets sleeper fascist Haley Stevens.

Without Hasan, NYC gets Andrew Cuomo instead of the, currently, most popular Mayor in US history.

You donʻt have to agree. But you not agreeing doesnʻt change the truth of it that, in part because corporate and zionist Democrats and Republican tried to make Hasan a boogey man, and then because Hasanʻs candidates WIPED THE FUCKING FLOOR and were INTEGRAL to the most signficiant election (perhaps?) in the past 60 years. Like, pretending Hasan doesnʻt matter doesnʻt change how much Hasan matters: it just makes you look like a increasingly irrelevant apologist for a form of politics the US doesnʻt want anything to do with.

Iʻm not asking Hasanʻs opinion. Iʻm making a statement that I donʻt think can be argued with, which is that in several primary races from 2025-2026, Hasan Pikers early involvement brought visibility, volunteers, and legitimacy to candidates who otherwise would have been boxed out as a result of our existing corporate media landscape. Hasan is engaging with candidates who poll are polling at 1%, and getting them the funding and volunteer base to get them to the 10-20% range where a campaign becomes self sufficient the fly wheel process takes a life of its own.

Hasan has downplayed his influence in the past because if they didnʻt, they would become the target and it could hurt that influence. Its a strategic comment to try and extend the runway they did materially have. Its now undeniable. Hasanʻs name was in the mouth of some of the most powerful peoples mouths in the world the past 3 months. They elevated his profile to this level. And if it had been a shellacking for left wing democrats, that would be the end of it for Hasan. But its the opposite of that. Hasanʻs picks whooped ass.

Conservative Democrats and “moderates” have been bullying the left for decades. Its turn tables now.

Then argue with it. Actually engage.

Do you think El Sayed makes it through the primary without out the support of Hasan and others like them on the left? Assuming Stevens could even win a general, we quite literally would have ended up with a second Fetterman.

Without Hasan, El Sayed doesnʻt leave the primary. McMorrough and Stevens consolidate and Stevens wins. Instead, McMorrough leans into the islamaphobia and lasers in on the Hasan connection and it loses her the election. El Sayed consolidates instead.

Literally, if not for Hasan, that seat stays red or at best is in the hands of an actual ziofascist.

            Who won this election…

            A. The people knocking on doors, organizers, grassroots volunteers and donors, the multiple household-name politicians who campaigned with El-Sayed, the actual 2.5 million people physically in Michigan who showed up to vote for him, El-Sayed himself keeping steadfast to his wildly popular platform…

            B. Some random influencer that showed up for a photo-op and his 2 million parasocial parasites who might [generously, if we assume they’re all Americans] make up 0.05% of the voting population of Michigan

This guy has never left his echo chamber and it shows.

Also: “we [who…?] put forth these popular candidates”… My dude El-Sayed wasn’t endorsed by the DSA or any notable radical progressive bloc. The dude ran his campaign with charisma and easy to digest policy against ghoulish opposition. His main building blocks were traditional Michigan cohorts (unions) and the underrepresented Arab/immigrant population of SE Michigan.

The exit polls show basically no change in people shifting their label from conservative to progressive. He just ran a good campaign with wide support. This guy needs to get over himself and touch some grass.

Sport, you’re the only one crashing out. Take your influencer worship back to your middle school buddies. You clearly aren’t ready to sit at the grownups table.

Jesus Christ get a grip dude. Most folks on Lemmy are Left as heck and are excited for the election results. You’re shitting in the punch bowl at the celebration party.

Really out here completely loosing it while everyone else ITT seems to be celebrating a collective win.

But not crediting your celeb dejour enough makes them lib cucks. Hmm, where have we heard that language before? Super weird.

Anyway, glad you like a streamer and are enjoying your first drink apparently. Cheers to an Al-Sayed victory and all who supported him along the way.

Half? Hell no. You could maybe argue El-Sayed would have lost the primary without his boost, and we should all be grateful Haley Stevens wasn’t the candidate.
