Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit Banned Me for Commenting a Palestinian Kid Who Shot In Head by Zionist Sniper
2·23 hours agoI was banned by reddit for quoting two articles from reputable news sources:
FBI officials contacted by the daily reacted angrily to the allegation of preferential treatment for the Saudis.
One official, speaking on condition of anonymity, when queried by the Times about the airport escorts said “we’d do that for anybody if they felt they were threatened - we wouldn’t characterise that as special treatment.”The newly released report leaves Ms. Farmer’s name redacted, describing her only as a professional artist. She had been hired by Mr. Epstein to acquire art on his behalf.
The complaint says that she had taken photos of her younger sisters — ages 16 and 12 — for her personal art work, and Ms. Farmer clarified in an interview that the photos included nude images. “Epstein stole the photos and negatives,” the handwritten F.B.I. report says. The report also says that Mr. Epstein had asked Ms. Farmer to take pictures of young girls at swimming pools and threatened to “burn her house down” if she told anyone about the photos.
Ms. Farmer said she did not hear from the F.B.I. until a decade later, when a fuller investigation ensued, ending in a 2008 plea deal for Mr. Epstein in Florida. She said she had lived in fear after trying to report Mr. Epstein.
According to reddit, my post “threatened violence”.
It’s like Lemmy but with advertising.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Can anyone overthrow Steam on PC? "As long as Valve is independent and not a publicly traded company," analyst says it looks impossibleEnglish
81·4 days agoA lot of people don’t seem to understand that Steam is DRM.
No one wanted to use Steam when it was released and the only reason anyone did is vendor lock-in on copies of Half-Life that were purchased at retail with no mention of Steam until Valve altered the bargain.
Some “innovation” to force people to use your service to keep playing a game they already purchased.

1·6 days agoSpeaking of Citra.
Does anyone know a place to download “Citra-Nightly-1782.AppImage”?
It is the last version that supports OpenGL 3.3 and the Linux binary won’t run without outdated libraries that are themselves difficult to obtain. But the appimage bundles its dependencies.
This archive.org page has copies of every release except the AppImage.
This page links to the AppImage but the link is dead.

21·7 days agoevery engine is going to be like that now at least partly.
…
all modern game engines will potentially have AI code in.
I think you might have understood me better than you let on. Or a strong wind blew the goal posts just enough to accommodate the word “modern” where they first stood.
Time will tell whether, in the future, all modern Scotsmen will eat slop with their porridge. At present there are still many extant Scotsmen who do not.

31·7 days agoI mean to be honest every engine is going to be like that now at least partly.
If that is so then disclosing the fact will carry little if any stigma.
However I don’t see why you would suppose that any amount of slop code being published might make (for example) the Quake engine become slop.

1·8 days agoAlso Steam acquired its user base in the first place by vendor lock-in on Quake mods. (Counter-Strike derived from Navy Seals Quake, Team Fortress was originally a Quake mod, and Half-Life is a Quake total conversion originally sold on a CD-ROM in a box.)

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds shares his thoughts on Anti-AI coding rules
3·16 days agoThe most valuable position in the market right now is as a substitute of search enginesm
The second most valuable position in the market is as a tool to speed up work for already skilled people.
I perceive them as having equal value. In each case the technology is forced on users in a top-down way and results in worse outcomes.
I don’t expect you’ll agree; that’s not the same as what I wrote being “Not really true.”

9·16 days agoThat is true but does not pertain to what I wrote.
To be more precise, LLMs’ present valuation in the market is not based on their being a skill so much as the end of skill.
