Agreed. I feel we’ve been giving politicians passes on “ignorance” for far too long. First, ignorance is not a defense in any other situation. Second, these people are supposed to uphold our laws and virtues, so they should be held to a higher standard. Third, if you can find a pattern in their “ignorance” which somehow always seems to benefit them personally - they’re not ignorant, but malignant.
We’re really globally going to return to the pre-WWII status quo, aren’t we?
The past 50+ years were an anomaly in humanity’s development, but we all collectively fell for the idea that it was, and would remain, the norm.

It’s just a figure of speech to denote “completely”, or “very much”.
This is what I feel is the core problem of out-of-bounds capitalism today. 50-80 years ago there were fabulously wealthy people as well, but they were taxed out the wazoo and were still fabulously wealthy. And even though every corporation’s goal is, and always has been, to make profit, it feels as if it’s gone from “profit” to “maximum possible profit at ALL costs, including the damnation of life on the planet”.
We have plenty of examples of hypercapitalism destroying us in fiction (cyberpunk etc.) but our current reality is really really close to that hellscape. In some ways it’s actually worse because of the insidiousness and banality of the evil that lords over us daily.
I was mulling moving everything from Google to Proton. Guess I’ll keep my money for now.
This is allegedly also why true geniuses suffer. Imagine being smarter than 95% of people and being keenly aware of it.

Citizens United ruling says money is speech. So in the US, this is unfortunately 100% legal.

It’s slowly becoming a point of abject loathing. Many of us openly laugh at Tesla drivers, not in the least because they’ve taken the crown of “deadbeat drivers” from BMW & Mercedes a long time ago. See an asshole on the road? 66% chance it’s a Tesla.
