ADHD@lemmy.world•I don't think I want to have kids after allEnglish
1·6 months agoIf you don’t want kids, you really should listen to that and not be swayed by other sentiments IMHO. You can’t expect your wife to do all the heavy lifting; you will need to step up. And it is hard and unrelenting work to raise children. It’s okay if that’s something you were wanting to do as it can become a source of meaning. If you don’t want to be there it will feel like a trap and there will not be a way out of it. I appreciate that this might mean that you and your wife would need to separate so she could have a chance to have children without you. Its just that important that you go into having children really wanting to do it because if you dont want to do it it will hurt everyone.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the telltale signs of self-individuation psychologists like Jung put forth?English
10·6 months agoJung didn’t have much to say about self actualization I dont think. it was more Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers. The term refers to what is possible after you’ve managed to take care of all your other needs, and what is left is to become the best most genuine expression of your possibilities you can be. Most people will never get their needs met and so actualization in its purest form will be elusive and fleeting.
What you’re seeing are her parents’ prejudices. You’re doing great.

Two spaces was taught in school typing classes. An artifact of mechanical typewriters I expect but that is why us olds do it that way.

Technology@lemmy.world•How Americans responded in 1955 when the invention of the polio vaccine was announcedEnglish
2·1 year agoThere are many influences. One is pure resentment of elites as know-it-alls which propagandists amplify. A bit of Dunning–Kruger effect at the same time as people without specialized training can’t even comprehend what they don’t know. Another is how difficult it is to think probabilistically so that people can’t easily appreciate risk. And as more and more people proclaim conspiracy theories as truth there is peer pressure to confirm.

11·1 year agoRobert Heinlein, I Will Fear No Evil
“Elderly billionaire Johann Sebastian Bach Smith is being kept alive through medical support and decides to have his brain transplanted into a new body. He advertises an offer of a million dollars for the donation of a body from a brain-dead patient. Smith omits to place any restriction on the sex of the donor, so when his beautiful young female secretary, Eunice Branca, is killed, her body is used—without his knowledge and to the distress of some of those around him.”
