91·2 days agoThere is no nonviolence because the world we live in is violence. War, genocide, abuse. They are happening now. To not act to stop them is violence. Luigi’s actions saved a lot of lives in exchange for one.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Who named Earth, Earth? Why that name? How was it come up with?
361·6 days agoMiddle English erthe, from Old English eorþe “ground, soil, dirt, dry land; country, district,” also used (along with middangeard) for “the (material) world, the abode of man” (as opposed to the heavens or the underworld), from Proto-Germanic *ertho (source also of Old Frisian erthe “earth,” Old Saxon ertha, Old Norse jörð, Middle Dutch eerde, Dutch aarde, Old High German erda, German Erde, Gothic airþa), perhaps from an extended form of PIE root *er- (2) “earth, ground.”

In my experience, Usenet will have everything that’s being released now, and have it quick and easy, without depending on peers or seeding. It gets almost all of my automated download activity for new releases. But for anything old, it’s going to be spotty with ‘missing articles’. At that point I fall back to bittorrent and Soulseek.
