New to Lemmy@lemmy.ca•Hide posts already viewed while scrolling or opened from the feed, is it possible.
4·8 days agoSummit has an option to hide posts that you scroll by, I didn’t know that.

4·8 days agoI just saw that option on Summit app, thanks
Edit: after changing the feed settings to mark post I scroll by as read, it is still showed in my feed.
There is a floating action button with three dots, tap on that and then enable “hide read”
Lastly, Marking a post as read while it is scroll by i not ideal and I see it as a work around.
It would be better if there was a different metric like viewed or “scrolled by”

mountainRadish@lemmy.worldOPtodatahoarder@lemmy.ml•I think Sony's Optical Disc Archive cartridge is the best consumer digital storage solution
1·15 days agonot because of the hardware.
The main cost is the hardware you could have open source NAS OS’s
The thing you read about optical discs is not about HTL inorganic blurays
You read about CD’s which uses an organize layer for the data.
Inorganic HTL blurays lasts 50+ years, and can be stored in room temperature and at high humidity.
About the box, those sleeves are not.designed for archival disc archival storage boxes protect blurays from scratches
And sony Archival Discs are inside a cartridge protected from scratches

mountainRadish@lemmy.worldOPtodatahoarder@lemmy.ml•I think Sony's Optical Disc Archive cartridge is the best consumer digital storage solution
12·18 days agoI think NAS is great for techies but optica disc storage is better option for family memories and stuff.
A NAS need maintenance and can get expensive.
LTO tape take a lot of care, I just read about it again.
It needs proper storage and maintenace and even then it last for 30 years.
Optical media last 50+ years and storage conditions is just normal home climate. I think for childhood memories, important documents, wedding videos is a perfect medium.
mountainRadish@lemmy.worldOPtodatahoarder@lemmy.ml•I think Sony's Optical Disc Archive cartridge is the best consumer digital storage solution
11·18 days agoBecause I believe for home use optical disc in a cartridge is easier.
*I might be wrong, but I remember LTO tape must be stored at certain RH and condition.
And they last for 30 years, maybe
And VHS tapes. Ade the idea of a tape around a spool feeels like it is not as robust as a disc.
Having said that, iffff consumer version of lto tape drives was out there it would be as cool.
But I still feel discs are more safer.
You see, I could salvage archival optical disc if I got flooded or if they went through extreme temperature.
mountainRadish@lemmy.worldOPtodatahoarder@lemmy.ml•I think Sony's Optical Disc Archive cartridge is the best consumer digital storage solution
11·18 days agoLTO is too complicated for someone like me.
Obtaining used drive is the only choice and it is still expensive… I think.
And magentic tape can store more.dafa but I think a cartridge with several optical disk is way more reliable because the data don’t habe to move around a spool or something.

New to Lemmy@lemmy.ca•I am new to Lemmy, and so far most communities are not that active
1·19 days agoI bet an AI shadow banned us.
I literally just made 4 posts about a humidity problem in some local subreddits to see how others handled it.
There was no reason to ban my shiny sexy ass.
Btw, you can talk like thag on this instance of lemmy.
I think you can make as many communities as you want, i bet it is encouraged becauss lemmy needs to grow and WILL GROW 💪
I wanted to make a community and call it peepeepoopoo for those who experienced the need to poopoo as soon as they peepee, such a fascinating phenomenon.
Exactamo! It is fascinating to me to talk to new people and hear about their life from where ever they are from because it is exotic
I was diagnosed with autism when I was I kid, I don’t remember which age but before 15 and after 10 for sure.
I had issues, I would fight “for no reason”
I would go sit in dark room.
And would not wanna go out or play etc.
With age I found tricks and techniques to cope and OH BOY the technology made my life so easy.
I don’t know how things are these days, it seems there is no shame in being mentally challenged, but back then it was taboo and shameful
Until today, typing the word “autism” piss me off, or I just feel something bad.
My brother case is really fascinating but I can’t share it here, you can message me and maybe we could do a one time voice call. And share our history.
And don’t worry dude, I am somewhat of a cuckoo whisperer, I know how procrastinaters are. I will wait until you are in that right mood.
Or we could privately text, but I love those one time calls with a strangers.

3·19 days ago🫂 lemmy will grow, I know it.
I still go and browser reddit because local subs of my city or region are fun
We should make a lemmy community for banned redditors
Like a support group.
For us to detox…
Nah, I am lazy
Dual citizenship doesn’t happen in this region 🙃 neither naturalization.
And I am not looking only for Omanis or Emiratis (UAE citizens)… basically, anyone who grew up in middle east.
Also my brother have sever ADHD, I never met anyone else with sever ADHD.
I would really love to talk with you to see how you like. I like to collect such data, I started when I was a child because I thought I could “fix” myself

I can’t comprehend what’s going on!? Why!?
