  • If Zig is easy than that means C is easy (as Zig is pretty much nicer written C) and if C is easy than, oh wait everything is written in C. I guess the only thing left to do is learn an unnecessary overcomplicated abstraction of C like java or C++.

As for the question, pick a task than pick a language, servers? Go seems to be replacing Java for the next generation, Games? Zig C# Odin C C++ Lua, Rewrites? Rust. Random small scripts? Python. Bare metal? C C++ Zig.

Also Zig Odin and Go are all C like languages if you learn one you learn about them all (with the exception of manual memory management for Go). My biased self recommend Zig as I think its the nicest, you almost certainly won’t get a job in it but the skills will transfer directly to C or Go where you can get jobs.

  • Zigs goal is to be more pragmatic than C.

It is quite possibly the worst language to vibecode in, it is updating fast so LLMs usually don’t know what format to use (meaning a person who knows zig must fix those format errors). You can also get an LLM to write terrible rust code and while it will perform shit it will probably work, Zig on the other hand has manual memory management and everything has to be thought about or else it won’t work. This is why once Anthropic bought bun they decided to vibe remove zig.

As the previous comment said the lead developer for zig really, Really, doesnt like AI and much of the community is also using zig because of its human focus. (Such as me)

The great benifit of Zig over C in my opinion, is it is more human readible, especially in terms of what is happening with memory management. Zig aims to have no hidden actions making it just as low level than C while making more sense and hiding less.

Mines simple: a small desert bowl.

    • Super easy way to make fancy steam poached eggs - pour a thin layer of water on the bottom of a pot and place small bowls on top (Coat each bowl with oil beforehand). crack an egg into each bowl, turn on heat and place lid on. Cook until white is firm but yoke runny. Serve on bread with avacado or butter
    • place on top of butter to keep fresh
    • cookie cutter! (Good for other doughs too)
    • mini terrarium for micro greens (if bowl is glass)
    • your own unique measuring unit that no-one else will understand
    • upside down as a stand for raising other dishes up
    • 1 person baking vessel - bake things in it
    • scooper
    • lid for jar
    • pot for herbs

  • My favourite sandwich ingredient would have to be avacado. Though I realise its unobtainable for most people, Im lucky to grow 2 fruiting tree’s so get em for free.

fresh baked bread with a drizzle of olive oil. Toped with avacado, homegrown olives tomato and lettuce (and some very old Edam if you feel like it). But don’t forget to add some homemade Rocoto chilli sauce somewhere along the way, adding some sweet tropical spice.

Unfortunately avacados are seasonal. We get them for about half the year. For the other half I must sit and wait, patiently biding my time. Waiting for the sun to rise on a day when the avacados will ripen once more.

  • Thanks, I’m trying out NewPipe right now but haven’t quit got the hang of it, though Im not giving up yet, I just don’t feel I can rank it yet.

Also i agree those Fossify apps are great that’s why I included the Fossify suite in A tier. I realise now that maybe they arent all A tier so Here’s my ranking of Fossify apps that fits in with the prior ranking:

Low S tier: Contacts, phone, SMS messenger

A tier: Gallary, file manager, Calendar, Clock, calculator

B tier: paint, voice recorder, keyboard, camera, launcher

Haven’t used enough to rank: notes - no sync and no markdown :( Music player - just haven’t used it much
