I used to have a not well known webcomic and would get death threats/“kill yourself” messages pretty regularly, so yeah for drawing a cartoon would be mine I guess! They never used to bother me especially though, I thought they were funny. I used to have a page up where I’d post the dumbest ones lol.

Yeah, I don’t see getting worked up about artistic taste. No one is forcing g them to read their stuff, and if someone actually is, their problem should be with whoever is forcing them to.

Let people enjoy their shit and move on.

I was gonna say the same thing. Never had a death threat sent to me, but I have had guns pointed at me a couple of times, so I guess that is a death threat of sorts. Been threatened with violence a few times, and even an attempted carjacking once. Not a damn one of them was conscientious enough to put it in writing though.

Honestly, you can get them for anything. My partner got multiple death threats for a post she made about soda one time. My best friend got tens of them for making a joke post on reddit about being able to fight a blackbear. Granted the common denominator for both of these was Reddit so maybe it’s just that.

I got them twice in reddit. One was some wildly racist whackjob who really got off on calling me stuff while making up some weird story about who I was in his head. Report and block and move on. Another was a Freemason candidate who was SUPER upset after he acted like a douche and got called on it by his own people. He blamed me for his actions. Lots of people will blame other folks for their own actions.

This is probably the most obvious answer, but I beat them over and over in a videogame lmao

Somehow I think I’ve managed to avoid getting death threats, beyond the “kill yourself” kind. If we count the “kys” bit, I got those whenever I played games online, but now it’s normally when I talk about communism with right-wingers.

My husband worked on a GPLv3 project as a hobby and they blamed him for not addressing their concerns (because they didn’t pay him or anyone else on the project) and it was impacting their crypto-currency launch.

Yeah, literally everyone else was more reasonable than crypto-bros and it is why my husband gave up on that project entirely.

Completely fucking unhinged are all the people in the crypto-currency community. They never fund anything and go apeshit if everyone doesn’t do shitloads of free work for them.

Not sent, but I had an old guy follow me 5 minutes down the road and threaten to kill me to my face because I apparently bumped into him in a busy station.

I was a trainee in Japan at the time and had spoken in an IRC channel about how I was going home to Sweden for Christmas.

Then I ended up in a disagreement with some Norwegian guy about affirmative action. I felt that in the computer science field it could be a good idea for a time to “jumpstart” female participation in the field, and once prejudice had been torn down you wouldn’t need affirmative action anymore.

He vehemently disagreed and said he would drive down to Stockholm’s airport to kill me with his rifle. There weren’t that many flights from Japan to Sweden so based on what I had said earlier he was able to figure out what flight I would be arriving with. But, well, I’m still alive. It taught me to be more careful with what information I volunteer on the Internet.

Like 10-15 years ago I took a screenshot from my pokemon game. I named my ditto “children” and then put it in the daycare center, so that when I went to pick him up the daycare lady says “If you want your children back, it will be $5000”.

As someone who had never watched the movie “Taken”, it was kind of unsettling to login to reddit the next day to find like five messages in my inbox saying some form of “I don’t know who you are but I will find you and I will kill you”.

Probably doesn’t fit the intent but thankfully those are the only examples I have.

I briefly made my Reddit profile picture one of my drawings of a coyote. I’m not a furry, I just like drawing animals. But apparently someone didn’t see it that way and messaged me suggesting that my face get intimate with their shotgun.

I reported their message, but all they got was a warning.

Even if you were a furry, you wouldn’t deserve death threats. I’ll never understand why furries attract so much hate.

I’m unsure because it was ages ago, but probably a mix of me being undiagnosed autistic them being undiagnosed something and telling them no I can’t give them free stuff at the job I was at.

They left when the manager came out. Manager asked if I needed a break because they heard the shouting.

    I was mostly baffled.

it’s only happened once to me that i recall, but the reason was pretty ridiculous. i told him i wasn’t allowed to mislabel his hot sandwich as a cold sandwich so that he could buy it with food stamps. he didn’t send me death threats, but he did shout them right there in the deli.
