I just got the papers yesterday for the region sponsored laptop my kid will receive now that he’s in secondary school (it’s a French thing) and I was so pissed to see it’s a stupid Win11… Whatever the fuck happened to distancing ourselves from this mountain of crap? I guess things ain’t ready for Linux yet, but I sure hope we are going to.

They could start by doing something, anything, about the ridiculous costs of those PCs due to aforementioned AI. If we have to have AI I’d rather have AI on my desk than in datacenters.
If they had any level of competency they could just make windows less shitty, and that would help a lot just being able to run it on lesser hardware.
They can stop increasing system requirements each year to keep up with how poorly everything runs.
I think they should just give up and use the next best thing like they do with everything else. Edge is just google chrome, the new Xbox is just Xbox game pass cloud gaming aka your phone. Just make a arm based windows operating system thats not whatever the hell windows on arm was. Then they can do their shitty app store and shitty cloud services. They already have apk access on windows. They just need to put it down instead of trying to jam android, Linux, and whatever else inside of windows.
