Title: The Artist Makes No Claims To The Accuracy Of The Views Expressed Herein
Hovertext: Naturally, to become a true artist, it takes YEARS of upselling to rich people
Did most people have bad literature teachers? I’ve encountered many people who have this idea that literature has a single correct answer you have to find, rather than the more correct (and fun) mode where it can mean anything you can defend. Author’s intent is a suggestion at best.
Standardized testing is the source of this evil.
There is an anecdotal story about analyzing a literature work:
“The author wanted to say insert something”
From the crowd the author answered:
“The hell I wanted!”I had one like that for several years. His approach to interpretation was that there was his interpretation and “D, factually incorrect”. And that was for homework or tests; having a differing opinion on a work during class was seen as a personal affront.
Notably, out textbook literally started with an essay written by a major author from our country that stressed how interpretation is inherently subjective and how it doesn’t make sense to ask for the one correct interpretation of a text. Of course the teacher never acknowledged that essay in any way.
I once used my self written poem in literature class. It made for an interesting discussion, and a dramatic reveal when it came to the internet of the author.
My teacher didn’t like my cheek and thoroughly grilled me in my oral literature exam. But at least I did get a passing grade.
considering most of my country has a 6th grade reading level (yes that country)
The brave original stance “modern art bad” seventy years after it was made without any contextual understanding why it was important at the time.
By a furry cartoonist.
Ok.
Yeah Warhol is the right person to target with that charge, not Pollock. Warhol was very clear that he was in it as a business.
Also they don’t know that a part of fine art education is learning how to write proposals and get funding and commissions to actually live as an artist.
Been a while since ive seen the housepets comic.
The last real one is from 2023. I started reading it recently because it was recommended in a Furry chat :3
I think I still have them on rss.
Them, out-of-placers, and keven and kell are some of my favorites. I just like comics in general.
