5·4 days agoI use Jan. It’s really good. A minimal install needs around 10GB of space and you can use it offline. The ‘jan nano’ model works faster than I can read in most cases.

8·4 days agoAFAIK If you host GotoSocial it links out to the instances where content is hosted, rather than downloading it as a copy. I have a single-user instance on a tiny VPS and it uses hardly any resources. I think part of the reason for that is the above. You have to use a client application with it because there is no web interface, which I think is partly why it is so lightweight.
Might be worth looking at if you’re concerned about accidentally hosting things you don’t want.

Does it have E2EE? I rent a VPS and would prefer personal files that I have on it to be protected.

51·12 days agoFirefox apparently has 21 million lines of code. I feel stress just knowing that something this monstrously complicated exists on my computer. I can’t imagine what it must be like to maintain it.
