Yup. Recycling is bullshit and if governments had any balls and weren’t bought and owned by the petrol and other corps, they’d put 100% of the owness onus on them.

Edit: correct a spelling mistake after several commenters pointed it out. Thanks.

        Paper is decent too…

I hate how poor recycling of plastics is now being used to not recycle other products that actually do recycle decently

I was explaining a similar frustration to a family member who said it’s because there’s so much plastic that it’s a PITA to sort it. Between this and microplastics, we need a return to glass, wire, and cardboard.

As much as I hate Amazon and have reduced ordering from them significantly, at least in my area, they are leading everyone else in using paper packaging with no plastic.

Hemp was a widely used material around the world until the fossil industry started to build similar synthetic products from the waste of the fuel extraction. Hemp got a bad reputation because of the proximity to cannabis and the deal was sealed.

I am still confused in public places, especially that restaurants.

So for example one place has 3 bins:

        • compost
        • plastic
        • landfill

        So if one has:

        • paper wrapper from a hamburger (with some of its sauce on it)
        • paper tray for fries (oily)
        • soda cup with a plastic lid and paper straw

What’s the best place to put them? Obviously landfill is easiest but the worst.

Can I put the wrapper, the tray and straw in compost? They are technically paper so I’m guessing it shouldn’t matter?

Is the plastic lid going to plastic, does it matter that it might be wet? Where does the cup go? Not sure of it is made of waxed paper or some hinge of plastic? Does it make sense to also put it in compost? I don’t think it makes sense for plastic, and landfill seems kind of bad.

          Paper go in compost

Paper cups are lined with plastic, probably one for landfill

Haven’t seen a genuine waxed cup in decades

            Thanks will follow that advice.

I wish that since they have standardized menu they could actually list examples and help educate customer and improve the results.

I’m quite sure I’m not the only one.
