This guy should be locked up in prison for atleast a decade and the woman for couple years for leaving an injured person on the road. But they will likely anyways plead guilt and go with something like “I did not mean to push him that hard, I just wanted to topple him” bla bla. His shirt explains everything one needs to know; wears a shirt thay says in England, lives in Edinburgh and probably wants immigrants out of UK. What a tool.

They reported this in the local paper today, you know it’s bad when the Edinburgh evening news was taking the side of the cyclist.
But then again Edinburgh drivers think they are above the law and riot when not catered to as God emperors of the city. Every time there’s an improvement to public transport or cycling or pedestrian areas, they throw a hissy fit.
I’m sure that’s a local phenomenon, it’s not like every city everywhere claims they have the worst drivers (except the person who shares that fact about their city, who either doesn’t drive or isn’t too bad in comparison).
A braver person would claim something like “(bad) drivers are like that everywhere”, but that would mean we need to overhaul the whole transport system instead of reminding specific cities of the traffic laws.

Conservatives are defined by their lack of empathy
MAGA is a cult. Conservatism is not. A conservative cannot be changed by any amount of “deprogramming”. They are biologically unable to experience empathy.
Yes, they can. There’s a reason that college “turns kids liberal.” It’s because meeting people from various cultures and backgrounds and learning that they’re just people too does a lot to combat the indoctrination they experienced.
Many of these people literally don’t know any better because they’ve been lied to their whole lives. Critical thinking and questioning authority is actively punished. The media that they were raised on trained them to think that any other source is lying to them.
It takes work, sometimes a lot of it, but most people can be reached. I’ve personally helped several people, even converting a “god put dinosaur bones in the ground 6k years ago to test us” believer.
But saying every conservative is a sociopath incapable of change just shows that you lack the ability to be empathetic. If there’s absolutely no room for forgiveness, then what reason do they have to change?

I also agree on the point regarding education. But to be fair, I don’t consider a 20 year old a real conservative, simply because they barely understand themselves yet. A young person who is able to experience empathy will eventually find their empathy completely incompatible with conservatism. It is not possible to experience empathy for others and hold conservative views simultaneously. Conservative views fundamentally defy empathy. Education speeds up that realization for young people, which is why it looks like it “turns them” into normal people.
Many conservatives are college educated. The reason they didn’t change in college is because they couldn’t feel empathy in college, just as they cannot feel empathy after college.
I’m glad you were able to reach someone who identified as conservative. That’s not easy at all. I tried to change my conservative friends, family and colleagues for decades. Getting your friend to change is an exceptional accomplishment. If they are able to experience empathy, then I am sure their change will be permanent.

The conservative voters think everyone ICE is kidnapping or killing is a violent criminal, because the media they were brainwashed into believing tells them so.
And they’re also trained that empathy is a weakness. That’s why you often see them change stances when something actually affects them. It’s not because they’re incapable of being empathetic, it’s because they’ve been trained not to be and the issue impacting them sometimes makes them realize how other people felt.
Of course, I’m definitely not saying that every person can be converted. Some people are too entrenched, but it’s definitely not all of them. But it’s absolutely a mistake to dehumanize every conservative like that. It’s one of the main tactics of fascism, and removes empathy from the equation.
Also, the approach to converting these people is crucial. If they even catch a hint that you’re talking down to them or trying to prove them wrong, they’ll shut down. You have to make it seem like you’re on board with their position, and ask clarifying questions to plant seeds of doubt.
I’m not downvoting you. You are engaging in good faith, and I appreciate your instinct toward kindness to them.
When conservatives are shown definitive proof that their thugs are harming innocent people, they do not change their position. They simply say, “well, I don’t know about that”. But that is a lie. They DO know about that. They do know what is happening right now and they are absolutely not interested in changing or stopping it. Their representatives hold both chambers of congress. Conservatives can stop this anytime they like and they are actively choosing not to. They completely understand the situation at this point and are choosing evil.
I agree that they are trained to see empathy as weakness. Growing up in south Texas, living there my whole life and then retiring there, I was told empathy was a grotesque weakness my entire life. Every person who told me that was a conservative who could not experience empathy. Because I am able to experience empathy, their lies could not work on me. But the lies worked very well on my friends, neighbors and colleagues who could not experience empathy.
I have been nothing but kind and supportive of them my entire life, mostly because I didn’t want to blame them for their biological shortcomings. It’s not their fault they can’t experience empathy. But it is their fault that they choose to harm others and celebrate that harm. Their inability to feel guilt or empathy does not absolve them. They choose to be the very definition of evil.
I have never talked down to them. I have always been supportive and have used the Socratic method and genuine, patient curiosity to try to reach them. I mourn the loss of my friends anf family that I have disowned. No amount of patience and kindness has been effective in changing them from being a deadly threat to the vulnerable around them. Their choices result in concentration camps and the loss of human rights. And they still celebrate it.
Conservatives will never stop harming others on their own. No amount of patience or love can make them stop. This is the sad reality of conservatism. It is cancer. There is only one way to stop cancer.

Notice how naturally it came to him and his wife. Conservatives are violent by nature and attacking people is normal behavior for them. That is an almost exclusively conservative trait.

It’s never been a worse time to be a cyclist in the UK the amount of hard men who shout abuse at me is unreal, and i only go out on a Sunday for leisure. Never happens when I go out with a group though.

Joseph Hedley became involved in a confrontation with the cyclist before violently attacking him at the city’s Cowgate in September 2024.
Hedley, 39, left his vehicle and approached the innocent male, before grabbing him by the neck and violently throwing him to the ground.
The victim smashed his head off the road and suffered serious head injuries, including a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
Hedley then left the 34-year-old cyclist lying unconscious in the middle of the road as he got back into his car and drove off.
Hedley, from Kirkcaldy, subsequently found out police had put out an appeal to find the motorist involved and handed himself into a local station two days later.
He pled guilty to assault to severe injury, permanent impairment and danger of life when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

I can’t help but feel the cyclist is being innocent washed though. No story whatsoever about the moments leading up to this incident? Like, why are we stopped in traffic like this long enough for both the passenger and driver to feel the need to get out?

Well I harken back to my father teaching me to drive, and the little nugget of wisdom that has saved my life in traffic multiple times over the last 25 years on the road and in the air: It’s better to be alive than right.
People are going to cut you off, they’re gonna break traffic patterns, they’re gonna drive the wrong way up the road, they’re gonna drive drunk while doing lines of cocaine off the ass of the prostitute they’re murdering, and you can list all the crimes you saw them do to the ER staff as they try to stop the bleeding around the steering column sticking out of your chest. You have a duty to yourself to steer around the jackasses.
It looks for all the world to me that Bikey Mikey is pulling some Karen-esque move blocking traffic to assert a cyclist’s right of way or some shit. He might have gone on a bike ride tomorrow if he’d just pedaled away. He had a chance to de-escalate the situation, which he didn’t take. So he took a street to the dome. That guy’s going to prison, that guy’s going on a respirator. Was whatever point he was making…worth it?
I get the feeling he chose to incite the incident. He chose to be in the way, he chose to stay in the way. I don’t give the first two half-flaccid thrusts of a reluctant pity fuck if he deserved to have his skull caved in, it wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t incited the incident.
Even if the cyclist was the most dumb or annoying person in the world… So what? Smashing someone’s head in because they are annoying is in no way an appropriate response to anything outside of a life threatening situation. Nobody should ever expect to have their head smashed in over an argument. What’s next? Stabbing kids because they were making annoying noises? I mean everybody knows it is common decency to not make annoying noises. They made annoying noises, so they were asking for it.
So assume he had the right of passage and wanted to exercise this despite seeing the car coming. You call this “inciting an incident” and then not letting the car lass “karenesque”? This is called victim blaming and usually is done by people who already have prejudices against one of the parties (and you strongly seem to have one). Goes along the same lines as “if she didn’t want to get sexually assaulted why did she wear a skirt”.
In what other circumstance is a man going to be standing on a bike in traffic long enough for a woman to get out of the car to start fussing at him?

Your logic applies just as well to the car driver, and he could just as well have ended up on the pavement. Was whatever point he was trying to make worth it? I think it’s flawed to see this interaction and think about what the victim could have done differently, but at the very least, don’t make it sound like he was the only one that “incited the incident”.

My best guess is it was the cyclist’s right to pass but being a dick the car driver didn’t even care about the bike and tried to pass, leading to this scene. Also the guy’s shirt explains a ton.
Was he riding a bike with no helmet? Why was he stopped right in front of the car, talking to the woman, it looked like he was blocking the car to be a jerk, blocking them and she was trying to talk him into moving. Then asshole makes an appearance. I vote everyone shitty here. Obviously asshole more so.
